As you arrive in the British Virgin Islands, more often known as BVI, you’ll be greeted with pleasant weather and hospitable nature from locals. There are four main islands here, Tortola,Jost Van Dyke,Virgin Gorda and Anegada, as well as fifty other smaller isles. The BVI are classified as a Level 1 Sailing Area, which requires that you have experience of five days (or a hundred miles) as skipper on an equivalent size yacht, three-day Flotilla Training Course, and an International Certificate of Competence (ICC). It is known as the ideal sailing holiday in the Caribbean from the islands, winds, beaches and hotels to the shipwrecks, beach party towns, sailing and tranquility.

Type of Yacht

No matter if you wish to hire a crewed catamaran, crewed sailboat, crewed motor yacht, bareboat catamaran, or a bareboat sailboat, there’s something for you to travel with depending on your experience and preferences. Having a crewed yacht means more time relaxing for you as they can handle the daily maintenance and tasks, whilst you relax. However, driving bareboat allows you to have total control of your yacht, meaning you can do what you wish to do whenever you want to. Both are sure to make a memorable vacation. In BVI, off-season lasts from July to November, the low season goes from May to July and November to December, mid-season lasts months of January and April, and the high season goes from December to January and February to March.


Prices range from the size and type of yacht hired. Bareboat yachts in BVI can range from $1,500 to $6,000 in the off-season and $2,450 to $9,100 in the high season.Catamaran bareboat yachts can range from $3,600 to $13,000 in the off-season and $5,250 to $16,000 in the high season. Bareboat Monohull Charters can range from $1,325 to $4,500 in the off-season and $2,150 to $6,950 in the high season. If you would like to hire a professional captain, the prices can increase from $175. These prices do vary accordingly.

Trip Itinerary

For a 7-day sailing trip through the British Virgin Islands, start at Tortola, Road Town. On the first day, start your charter to Norman Islandthrough Sir Francis Drake Channel and pass along a few of the best-known snorkeling spots. Continue onwards to Peter Island and indulge in some signature sandwiches, delicious ribs, or some wood-fire pizzas. On the third day, travel to Salt & Cooper Island, two of the smaller islands of the group and dive into Wreck of the Rhone, a well-known diving spot. Pass by the privately-ownedGinger Island and head over to the natural Jacuzzis at the Baths on Virgin Gorda. After some snorkeling, continue onto North Sound, which is offthe northern edge of Virgin Gorda and is surrounded by the smaller islands of Saba Rock, Prickly Pear, andMoskito.Enjoy some paddle boarding, kiteboarding, and windsurfing, and watch a spectacular sunset on one of the smaller islands.  For the last day of your charter, begin your last sail through Sir Francis Drake Channel to Road Town passing by Beef Island and Scrub Island.
