Horse riding voted as the best holiday activity among Holidaymaker’s

A recent study to find out the best outdoor activity among holidaymakers revealed horse riding to be the most popular. The study, conducted by a UK based holiday cottage website evaluated the most popular outdoor activities amongst people when they are on a holiday. Horse riding got the most votes with 24% stating that they would choose that above the other options.

This survey by Blue Chip Holidays polled 1,228 British residents who are holidaying in UK this year. Nearly a quarter (24%) rated horse riding as the most preferred option cycling (21%) and rambling (20%). The most unpopular activity on the list was sailing which can be a surprise to many. The survey included people across age groups from 18 years of age to 65 years.

The survey asked, ‘Which of these activities would you be most tempted to try whilst on holiday?’ and the results were as follows:

  1. Horse Riding: 24%
  2. Cycling: 21%
  3. Rambling: 20%
  4. Surfing: 19%
  5. Sailing: 16%

Male respondents choose cycling as their preferred choice while surfing ranked second on their list. For women horse riding emerged as the top activity due to the romantic notion of riding in the sunset with 26.5% of the vote. Rambling at 20.7%, cycling at 19% and surfing at 18.7% were the other picks by women.

32% of those aged 65+ wanted to spend their holiday rambling in the countryside, while only 16.2% from this group opted for the more strenuous activity of cycling as their favourite activity.

Talking about the survey results, Tori Kirwan-Taylor, Brand & Communications Manager for Blue Chip Holidays said that country getaways were among the most popular holiday choices for UK residents this summer.

She said, “The beautiful landscapes and fresh air offered in the pristine countryside across the UK is unbeatable and allows holiday-goers to relax or be active. The most tempting activities for UK residents are ones that can be enjoyed in the countryside – horse riding and rambling in particular. It looks like the British love affair with the great outdoors continues to grow.”
